Many pet owners complain that their pets are afraid of
certain sounds such as thunderstorms or fireworks. Such
fears can vary in severity from mild and almost unnoticeable
to severe and life-threatening. Pets also differ with regard
to what sounds they are afraid of.
In this class we’ll explore the causes of noise
phobias in animals and how they develop in companion animals.
We’ll also discuss how to differentiate noise phobias
from other fearful problems that can present the same symptoms
including separation anxiety and fears of specific places
such as crates. The different options for managing noise
phobias as well as treatments to resolve noise phobia problems
will also be discussed. This class will be 90 minutes in
length with time for questions and group discussion.
This class will be particularly valuable for veterinarians,
veterinary technicians and other veterinary staff, dog
trainers, behavior consultants, shelter and rescue workers
and other pet professionals including groomers, pet day
care providers, pet sitters and boarding facility workers.
The course comes with class notes and recommended readings.
