Because the first symptom of many illnesses and diseases is a change in behavior, we strongly recommend that you first have your pet examined by your veterinarian before seeking behavior consulting services.  Many “behavior problems” masquerade as medical problems so having your pet evaluated by your veterinarian first is the best option for you and your pet.

Prior to the scheduled consultation, it is likely we will ask you for videos of your pet, your house and yard, and potentially of your pet displaying the problem behavior (You’ll discuss this with our assistant during the scheduling process.  We will NOT recommend putting any person or animal at risk of harm for the purpose of capturing video!).  In some cases, we do not need to see video of the behavior (e.g. housesoiling, noise phobia reactions, and others).

Most initial consults require 45-60 minutes to complete a behavioral history/interview and create a behavior modification plan for you to implement.  You’ll receive a summary of the recommendations and your veterinarian will receive a behavior report.

Fees

Charges for telephone consults are generally $225 for 90 minutes of telephone time or email followup time.  Payment is usually by credit card but Paypal can also be arranged.  Once the appointment is confirmed, a deposit of $75 will be charged. Except in emergencies this deposit becomes non-refundable 24 hours before the scheduled appointment time.
